Looking After Local Businesses
Local businesses have had a terrible year so far, having to cope with two lockdowns, tier restrictions and enforced Covid-secure measures.
Some businesses have had to shut completely, others have managed to adapt to what ever the local or national situation is. However, Daniel Candon imagines that there is not one business out there that has not experienced a forced change in operating procedures or a negative change in consumer behaviour.
It is important to remember that there is lots of support out there though, locally through Great Yarmouth Borough Council or nationally through the Government.
This year the government is spending a staggering £280bn on measures to fight Covid-19 and its impact on the economy.
That includes £73bn for measures to support jobs such as the furlough scheme, where the government pays most of the wages of employees who cannot work and £66bn will be spent on grants and loans to support businesses.
What is available for my business from Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC)?
There are packages of support available from GYBC, such as:
- Local Restrictions Support Grant

More information on these, their eligibility criteria and how to apply can be found here: Coronavirus Advice: Businesses - Great Yarmouth Borough Council (great-yarmouth.gov.uk)
Additionally, for businesses in the hospitality sector, there is help and advice for those that are currently having to run a collection only service.
This information poster [72kb](Opens in a new window) is to help you explain to your customers how you will be operating during the coronavirus pandemic.
It is suggested that the poster is displayed near the entrance of your food premises so customers can see and read it before entering. The poster is based on the Government guidance specific for takeaways and restaurants offering a pick-up service.
What is available for my business from Government?
